Default Distributor hold down question 68

Were both styles of distributor hold down clamps used on corvette, wire and stamped steel. Does anyone have pictures of what they have on there original cars. Thanks, Terr

I believe that C3's only got the stamped steel part.

Mine is stamped steel. I have no reason to believe it's not original.

Sources indicate in early 68 they switched from wire to solid. Willcox and others show it up to 69.

Lots of observations. Sounds as the wire style didn't work very well. Interesting. Terr

That hold down clamp provides the electrical ground path for the distributor [ignition system]. Maybe too little contact with wire tips....

Many folks don't know that they cannot put paint on the underside of that clamp nor where the clamp touches the engine block. They clean up & paint the engine--then have ignition problems. Hmmmm.....
