I have 68 coupe June production with AC and the wiper door stays up and the wiper override lamp on dash is illuminated - have to disconnect battery so lamp goes out. When I hook up battery override lamp goes back on. Both the wiper switch bezel and center guage cluster bezel are broken at the weak points. The wipers will not work either. Could the broken bezels be the cause of the wiper door staying up and the wipers not working? I understand that the ground goes through the bezel on 68's. when I turn on wiper switch I see small sparking from where the wiper bezel is broken and can feel current when touching the bezel. Any help would be appreciated thanks - lcf
thanks Rescue Rogers the wiper switch has three terminals on it that plugs into a harness - there is an off, low and high setting for the wipers depending where you select the switch - probably a dumb question but where do I attach a ground wire to the switch itself? don't want to blow fuse or something else - thanks for your help - lcf
It is possible to install that wiper electrical connector 180* around from its proper location. I believe the wiper door will stay up when that occurs.

Loup68 beat me to it. I put a wire with an eyelet on a mounting screw and then ran the other end to the fram with an eyelet. And yes, make sure the wiper plug is not plugged in backwards. The blade is supposed to prevent it from being pluggen in wrong but it isnt big enoug
Go to Willcox Corvette (vendor here on the forum)
They have a repair/trouble shooting section where you will find every procedure (with great photos/diagrams) to guide you through the process of diagnosing your ‘68 wiper system—-you likely have vacuum issues as well as electrical
thanks Loup68 I did this but the wiper door still stays up and wipers won't work I am still looking at the cause - do you know anything about the wiper override switch below the steering column? I have never messed with that before; any other suggestions would be helpful - thanks lcf
Rescue Rogers - I did this initially with a wire with alligator clips and grounded the wiper switch to see if the wipers would work or the wiper door would go down; negative on both those; do you know what I should check next? the override light stays lit when I hook the battery up; do you know anything about the override switch below the steering column? any other ideas? thanks for your input - lcf
RR would know better, but the Wiper Override Switch under the Dash is just a simple off/on continuity dial switch.
It kills the circuit that powers the wiper motor. It was there to be able for the owner to stop the wipers in the UP position in order to change blades, etc.
The door will stay up if the wiper arm on the passenger side doesn't fully park and press on the vacuum switch at the base of the windshield.

Yes they are correct. if the wiper over ride switch is turned to the over ride position, it will break the ground circuit an cause the light to light. If its turned on then you wipers will not function and if they are not in the parked position the door will not shut. The switch can be bypassed to test it and run straigh to ground or you can just run a continuity test through it testing one side aand passing through to ground
you can take meter readings as indicated to see where you power is. Make sure all your grounds are good. The heater fan ground can be missed alot

You can also try the willcox bench test with the motor in the car to see where you stand as well. If the wiper door is all the way open and its closing the limit switch by the actuator then the wipers should work. If the door isnt pushing the button in all the way then you will be missing the interupting the ground path. f that isnt the issue you may want to test the relay and the solenoid on the tach

It was introduced in late 68, possibly due to the battery ddrainng issue of the switch esily moving to the over ride position and leaving the motor energized which killed the battery over night. The issue may have been solved for 69 and the light changed to somthing else like low fuel or seat belts

Interesting - never heard of the lamp on '68s.
Where was it located? Within the Speedo or Tach?
Or was there a specific lamp housing somewhere else, like the center cluster.
My '69 just has the seatbelt lamp and reset button on the left and the headlamp warning and door ajar lamps on the right of the center cluster.

Where your headlamp warning would be the wiper light would be. But only on late 68s
