Default Steering wheel question

hey ya'll

I have a 73 coup and want to replace the stock wheel. I don't want to pay 200 bucks! I would like to buy a 14 inch universal wheel and drill it for the 6 mounting bolts. I understand the horn will not work. But will there be any issues with this

Thanks

Do you have free use of a mill to get the holes just right? The right wheel might be cheaper than doing the work yourself.

I had a wheel in my 80 from Corvette America with chrome spokes, until I changed it out for one from Volante that looks close to stock. These wheels bolt up directly, and the horn still works.

I have that wheel. Its a corvette america wheel.. Ive had it for a year.
I have 2 other cars with wood wheels (grant and nardi)
i was kinda hesitant to get it too, because i thought it was gonna be a fake wood ebay wheel. but its wood because i accidently nicked it a few time when i was figuring out my horn and tele

It feels really solid, probably because its a little thicker than my other ones.
It does have a super shiny(i guess urethane clear on it) that does give it a bit of a plasticy shell.
My other wheels feel more like furniture wood, the vette one like a painted surface,
Its hard to explain, maybe its ecause the other wheels are older and broken in, or maybe they have a differnt finsih/sealer oils?? So your hand doesnt seem to glide as smooth when you reposition on the wood. Like, when you glide your hand across nice furniture, vs your hand squeaking across a painted car hood lol.

the minor things i dont like are the way the wood edges where the spokes meet are too squared. Like they should have rounded or beveled the edges to blend into the spokes better. (I would actually prefer it didnt have those little extensions, and just have the spokes finish at the woodring, like a nardi). also there are notches in the backside for finger grips that also seem a little sharp edged. Its a little thicker than my other wheels but its still comfortable, no thicker than the fat leather modern car wheels.

tHe color is more of an orange honey, i think mine has been fading since ive got it. the chrome is nice, but kinda blingy for a standard vette interior.

For a bolt on, no adapter. and still retain your horn button it is an awesome deal for about 100 bucks.

It beats the crap out of the sticky vega type wheel the car came with.
