Default Exhaust and leaf spring distance

Hey everyone

What would be the ‘correct’ distance between the leaf spring bottom and the top of the exhaust running under it (1977; I'm using allen's true dual exhaust pipes).

I got about 1 cm… which I find really close to the spring 'shield' (don't know what that aluminum plate is called), but when I back it off a little more it comes very close to the street level…
I'm running longtube headers, but it seems the rear pipes that go under the leaf spring are closer to the ground than the headers flanges...

Any advice on this would be very helpful.

Here are some pics:

1 cm seems a little tight. Steel spring?
Normally they want about 1" of clearance around the transmission, you're back farther (very slightly cooler) and the differential isn't as fussy as the trans but I'd still look for more than 1cm

If it's a glass spring you'll need way more

Yes, it's the original steel spring.

If it was me, I'd still try to get some more room than that. It wouldn't see much movement from the engine back there but no doubt it'll touch at some point

Speaking of one being lower, I noticed yesterday on my “new” ‘73 that the car is about 1/2 inch or so lower on drivers side. Is that normal and if not, how do you adjust that? I’ve only had the car for <3 months, noticing stuff all the time that I didn’t see at first.

If you "tighten" the nut at the bottom of the bolt holding the rear spring to the trailing arm it will raise the car on that side
