Yes. Walmart batteries are just fine. It's all I've bought for my 3 cars in the last decade or so. Don't struggle with it. Just go get one and trade your old one in.

I have had very good luck with Walmart batteries in anything that requires a battery-cars, atv, lawn mower etc.

You said batteries?

I'm running two 6V Optimas tucked away forward of the storage compartment area to give me a bunch more usable storage space-

batteries lose 10% CCAs a year on average. the more CCA's you buy, the more you will have as your battery ages.

hot engines require more amps to start, very cold climates require more amp rating to overcome the inefficiencies of cold weather.

as a result, that day your car won't start will be an earlier date if you skimp on the CCA's.

buy the biggest baddest battery you can afford. but check the reviews, a subset of batteries will die early.

Yeah, it's all a crap shoot anyway.
I've had a Sears Diehard Gold in mine for 10+ years. I do have a battery disconnect switch that I use during the winter storage in the garage, and have never had to jump start in the spring.

That makes a lot of sense. My car has a parasitic draw that 3 people can't find so I have a disconnect switch so I have to be careful about keeping the battery charged

East Penn and Johnson Controls are the only nationally distributed car batteries made in the US. Regardless of the brand name, one of these outfit made it. Now many of the cheap batteries are coming in from China. No thanks!

Most car batteries sold in the U.S. are made by three companies that build them for the retailers:
Johnson Controls, which supplies more than half of the market; Exide; and East Penn.
They are sold under various names and built to the specs of retailers, so performance can vary.
That said, I've had very good luck with batteries from Auto Zone, I dont buy the cheapest one and buy the most CCA available that will fit. Get a good warranty too.

I have a O'Riley Super Start premium in my vette and both my trucks, (5.3 / 5.9) have had AutoCraft batteries from advance. They have never let me down even on the coldest day but i'm not really partial.

I use an Optima deep cycle yellow top. I have a big stereo system. I leave it on a battery tender when not driving the car.

I purchased an Interstate battery for my C7.
Both are good batteries in my opinion.

Red top Optima batteries are a no no.

It really depends-

Red tops are designed with MORE CCA (about 15%)- Yellow have less but more reserve (about 20%)- as one goes up the other must go down.

So if you are running a big block- in hot weather - the red top would be the choice.

If you are tailgating /car shows and running a stereo or lights while the car is not running- then you'd want the yellow.

I'm looking at more startup power- running red tops- as I've gotta power up fuel injection and coil on plug to start....my stereo is a sidepipes!!!

Optima. Main power is hooked to side terminals. Accessories hooked to top terminal. Made wiring a lot easier.

I don't have any firsthand experience but when Johnson Controls bought Optima and moved production to Mexico in the mid 2000's IIRC then reduced the warranty. There were a lot of complaints about quality and early failure. I haven't seen complaints lately. Maybe they fixed their quality issues. For the cost they should be one helluva battery.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Delco! No matter how much or how little I pay for a battery, I've never had one outlast the original. Delco batteries aren't cheap but they're very good
