Default Convertible top cover spring removal

I am in the process of separating the body from the chassis on my 1972 Convertible. Mount #4 on the driver’s side spun, so I need to remove the cover spring to get to the nut. Does anyone have a prescribed method of removing those four bolts at the top of the spring assemble? Twenty years ago I had to remove these same items on my 1962 and remember what a PITA that was. Each of them was removed in a different manner and I am hoping someone has a way to do this.

On the 63-75 cars there is a tool that we make for removing the spring. Unless you wish to unload the spring tension you'll need two to keep the springs extended while they are off the tower. You raise the deck lid, insert the tool then lower the lid and the springs will come off.

At one time we were making these out of left over parts but now we have set up production to manufacture them with solid sides. So what is pictured at this link is not exactly what it will look like but it will work just the same and be stonger. We are set to run a new batch on Friday or the following Monday, time permitting.

I don't think I really need to remove the spring from the assembly. My problem is reaching the nuts that screw into the rear edge of the rear deck. Is there a good method to do this?

To be clear....you are referring to the upper end of the brackets/braces?

Post a couple pics of the problem area....I know what you are talking, but, like you, it's been a while since I "fought" them.

I just fixed this a different way on my 1974 convertible. I wasn't prepared to remove the convertible top and then have to reinstall that just to get access to the cage nuts.
Always good to have options.
