So I was in the process of replacing the rubber fuel line on the gas tank of my 68 roadster. After lowering the spare tire support, the tire and inside were covered in dried out gasoline. Now I know I need a new gas tank. My problem is how do I remove the bolts that hold up the front of the spare tire carrier?? Ive sprayed them with oil, tried to turn them with adjustable wrench, any pointers on how to get them off?? Thanks Buddy"
Guess the 68's were different (like a lot of stuff on them)
On my 72 those hanger bolts have a weird head on the end that's like a half ball/cone with two flats, the A-frame on the spare hanger rests and pivots on the that. Then up at the frame there's a regular hex nut on the end that threads into the frame, acts like a jamb nut. Certainly nothing you can get a 6-point on. Regular open end wrench, (maybe a linewrench style crowsfoot on a long extention)
Anyway, on mine you have to back off the nut jambed at the frame, then you can unscrew the entire bolt using the two flats at the lower end.
An Electric Impact gun or an Air Impact gun can help vibrate rusted bolts/nuts aloose once the have been soaked...…
loosen a little/tighten a little until the bolt/nut begins to unscrew....
add penetrant to prevent threads from seizing as it unscrews.
Put grease or anti-seize lube on threads when reinstalling nuts/bolts.

Can you post a picture of what you have? I have to work on mine(68) and I'm not sure how they're supposed to be held up there. Is there a "nut" inside the frame? Another nut on the outside?

mine didnt have the jamb nut if I remember correctly, and I have a really big adjustable so I can get more leverage on it. JUst keep soaking it. If you can find the threaded side with your finger then try and get some oil up on that side as well
Thanks for the help, Ill hit them with PB blaster couple more times, let them soak. Working on cars on the floor isn't as easy as it was when I was in my teens and 20's. I need all the help I can get, Thanks Fourm
