Default Vacuum Solenoid

Good morning All,
I’m deep into the dreaded 69 vacuum system, and can’t get the headlights or the wiper door to work. I found a couple of great posts on this forum showing how the systems work (thanks again Willcox!), but I still have a few questions I was hoping you guys could help with.

1. How many in Hg are needed to run the system? I’m pulling about 15 with a vac pump.
2. The tach mounted solenoid for the Ws wiper system is working, but there is damned little air coming through it. Is this normal, or is it possibly restricted?
3. What is the intent / purpose of the vac switch mounted in the wiper bay? I know it feeds the main vacuum switch that controls the door actuator, but mine is set up where the wiper arm hits the switch every time the wiper revolves (constant intermittent switching on-off), is this correct?

As always, any help is greatly appreciated!

>> More than enough, I run about 14 with no problems.

>> That line is a control signal, goes to the actuator side of the vacuum control, doesn't require much flow.

The switch in the wiper trough is a safety switch, when depressed, allows the door to close. Going from memory, it should be depressed when the wipers are parked.
Has nothing to do with the headlights.
Are you getting vacuum to the control valves, the larger hose?
Are you getting vacuum, on/off to the smaller hose when the headlight switch is turned on/off or wipers are running/parked?
Have you checked the override switches under the column?

Thanks for getting back to me on this!

1 and 2 - Perfect, that’s what I needed.

3 - my wipers are apparently parking in the ‘up’ position, because they don’t contact the safety switch when turned off. I know there’s a procedure for setting the park location, I’ll dig around and do that first. With regard to vacuum, I’ve got a bad headlight switch, won’t pass vacuum through when off, so I’ve got a new one coming, and have bypassed it directly to the override switch. I’ve also isolated the headlights from the wipers in the dash so I can work them one at a time. Getting ready to see what has vacuum under the hood, I’ll get back to you. Thanks again!
