My kid is trying to wire up an Edelbrock electric choke on his 1405 carb. I don't see an OEM wire anywhere. Could it have been tied to an oil pressure switch or do we have to go all the way to the fuse block IGN port and put an inline fuse in place? Thanks
There is no factory wire, because an electric choke did not come on a 1979.
I used to have a 1979 and hooked up an electric choke by connecting a wire to the ignition terminal on the fuse panel. I ran the wire thru the speedometer cable grommet and connected it to the actuating terminal on a relay. I powered the relay from the back of the alternator and grounded it to an alternator mounting bracket. Then ran the switched wire from the relay to power the electric choke. I wired an in line fuse on the powered wire from the alternator to the relay, in case there was a short or power overload.

The PO on my 73 pull the positive power from the connector/harness going to the back up light switch located on the passenger side of the power brake booster. Of course he removed the switch/bracket from the tranny, so I didn’t have any back up lights. Don’t you just love Bubba and all his many cousins?
Well, he wired it to an orphaned blue wire that was tied up by the alternator. It's only hot in the run position. Works great for the choke coil, but it causes the temp gauge to max out. I can't a find a blue wire in this location on any drawing so far
