I ordered new bumpers for my Corvette but I still have the old ones. Pretty much surface rust. What should I do with these??
Should I just trash them or should I try to sell them?
I'm not sure there is a strong market for imperfect bumpers.

Thanks for your input.

You could sell them and the buyer could have them rechromed. Aftermarket bumpers don’t fit as well or look as good as originals.

Would recommend hanging on to those originals for awhile for exactly the same reason sullyman56 mentioned. I've not had the best of luck with fit on repro parts. If the new reproduction bumpers do not look right and do not fit right, you could always get the old bumpers re-chromed and put those back on the car and then sell or trade the new repro chrome bumpers. You know those originals will fit perfect. I have re-chromed a few original parts, takes a little time and money, but they look really nice and there is no fit and alignment issues with originals.

Fingers crossed - maybe the repro chrome bumpers will fit and align absolutely perfect without modifications, then you can just sell or trade the old ones to someone else once you are happy with the results.

All I can say is - I wish I had held on to my 69 original front bumper. I purchased a new aftermarket front bumper years ago knowing I was going to paint my 69. Got the car painted and tried the aftermarket bumper - it doesn't fit for crap!! Wish I had the original and just bit the bullet to have it rechromed.

Yep - I agree wit the previous posters - HOLD ON TO THEM

You said 'ordered'... If you had not thought of having them re-chromed you should give that serious consideration and cancel your current order. I had mine re-chromed and could not be happier with the way they came back and obviously fit perfectly back onto the car.

FIRST, Verify the "old" bumpers are actually Original Equipment

If you have a 'driver' quality vehicle, buying new bumpers is WAY less expensive than having yours prepped and re-chromed. Keep the originals and sell them AS-IS to those who NEED original bumpers. Just clean them up and put 'em on E-bay, etc.. DO NOT try to shine them up, other than clean/hand-polish. It can damage and/or make a mess trying to machine buff chrome....unless you know what you're doing.

Just had my rear bumpers re chromed on my 72 last year. If I remember right $325 per side in my neck of the woods. Worth every penny to me.

I have a good friend who deals in parts. I asked him about ordering new bumpers on my ‘69... he wouldn’t sell them to me. He said, “you will hate them.”

Always rechrome the originals when possible. Putting on cheap junk that you fight to get on the car isn’t worth the price difference.
