Default ‘77 Column Dimmer Switch

As I’m dealing with other electrical issues, I’ve noticed this circuit getting hot. It’s the green wire - circuit #11.(High beams). It is a 3 terminal connector & switch but I also see 4 terminal switches available for replacement.

I’m wondering if there is some underlying issue here. Perhaps something in the column stalk switch?

There is no connection at the harness plug for a 4th wire if a new switch has it, so you're OK there.
Circuit 11 feeds all 4 headlamps along with the High Beam Indicator Light. I would check the 4 headlamp plugs, maybe corrosion, moister? If you are also thinking about replacing the melted main harness dimmer switch plastic connector GM #8917693 or GM #12102757 I found a replacement. On the 12102757 it comes with pigtail wires in the connector, just remove them and use existing harness wires.

ACDelco Dimmer Switch LINK: https://www.ebay.com/itm/DELCO-DIMME...AAAOSwElpeI0E4 That is a good price.
I had a similar problem with my low beams, not melted but found a bad crimp. These F/M crimp connectors are series 59, not your standard 56 series.

Thank you for the info! For some reason, the ones on eBay do not match mine 100%. The one I pulled off only had 1 screw attachment. These have 2 attachments and a longer bracket. Anything to be concerned about?

Most of the replacement even ACDelco have the added or extended bracket. The photo below are the instructions for the new dimmer switch installation. This may help answer your question.

Make sure you set the dimmer rod lash correct as figure 4 shows. You have a 77 one year only wiper/washer/dimmer actuator arm and if it is NOT set correctly it could put undue stress on the pivot bracket. You don't need that can of worms.

On this switch, same #7829781 you will see a metal loop from one side of the switch to the other. This is actually holding the switch at the same distance as the 3/32 drill bit method in fig 4. When the lash is removed and switch tightened pull the pin out. You will also see the additional stud & nut needed for new switch install.
