Default Help Identifying a Column. ‘77?

I bought this column with a bunch of other parts a couple of months back and am going through it, replacing bearings, cleaning up and painting and I’m a bit confused. I was told it’s a ‘77 column, but the new turn signal arm I bought for it is nothing like what is in it. The arm that was on the column is threaded where as the replacement arm has some kind of locking end on it.
What year of column is this?
Also, can anyone advise how I remove the locking ring in the last photo? It looks pretty fragile and I don’t want to break it.
Thanks in advance.

That's just not right...
I hope your wiper/washer switch still works. Looks as if someone screwed a tilt or other type lever into the switch. Your new paragon lever, at least the end of what I see is the correct lever for the 77.
That is a T&T 77 column, looks as if it is a nice clean column.

The 77 is a one year only column, and it sure looks like a 77 column to me. Earlier columns don't have the key release lever, or the column mounted high/low beam switch, and later columns have a different lower column cover. I can't answer your question about the difference in stalks, but since it appears someone has been into the column before (it has a 67-72 flasher ****), the switch may have been changed too?

You're right, the horn contact retainer is fragile. After 40 years the plastic they're made out of is usually pretty brittle, causing them to pretty much fall apart when you try to remove them. New ones are available form most Corvette vendors for about $8.

its a 77 column , the wires coming out into the black plug are the wiper/washer wiring

the turn switches are not interchangeable with the earlier ones 67-72 -totally different . But the hazard **** is from an earlier year column.

the washer switch is activated by pushing the lever inwards so... hopefully the idiot that screwed the wrong lever in hasn't ruined the switch lever seating

just pry that retainer off , they become brittle with age so it will probably crack anyway , but even if it does come away clean it will be a loose fit if you try to use again. that being broken makes the horn go on constantly.

do you have the tilt release lever ? that has a thread on it and goes on the upper hole !

looks like the plastic surround around the tilt lever has been broken , typical damage from someone who cant figure out how it goes together

OK..... apparently I’ve bitten off more than I can chew right now considering I’m in the middle of replacing the wiring harness in my ‘58 Impala. This was supposed to be a fun distraction when I got frustrated...... that’s seeming to turn the other way. lol
i think I’m going to just sell the column. I’d appreciate any input as to what a fair price for both parties would be so I can place an ad in the classifieds. I’ve bought a new signal arm, telescoping ring, and a few other small parts you can see in the photos. There was a bunch of spare parts that were in the pile of parts I bought as seen in a couple other photos.
What would be a fair price to list this at?

Thanks in advance. I never intended this thread to head this way.

Allan

I depends on the switch , if it still works and the lever stays in , then its worth heaps .The switch I mean , the rest just goes with it .

There are threads on here where they show how to test the switch with a meter.

Corvette Columns 817-296-1819 has always been able to answer questions on different columns and usually has parts needed.
