Default Glue remover

The po off my 73 is glued the carpet all the carpet to the floor. Any ideas other than a whole lot of elbow grease and cussin and drinking beer. I’ve got the time I guess.

For the factory goop I found that a flexible scraper blade on the multi-tool worked extremely well and didn't gouge the fiberglass at all (I guess if you really wanted to try it probably would)

Yup, plus a scraper and some 3M scrub pads to finish it off. If you can keep it wet for some time, it will soften some. However, if can keep it wet it probably also means you are in a somewhat poorly ventilated space, so you probably need a respirator. No fun to be had in that job. Glad its over for me.

3M makes an 'actual' adhesive remover product which works pretty well -- better than lacquer thinner IMO.

Scrape as much off as you can. Might need to wash off with soapy water afterwards to remove the solvent smell.

But do what you think works best.

I agree, I've used the 3M stuff and it works great. Especially for weatherstrip adhesive.

Yep it probably will on fairly fresh paint. On fully-cured older paint I haven't had problems. On carpet try in in an inconspicuous place to make sure it doesn't cause any color issues. As much as you can remove with a scraper or razor knife the better.

When I started this job I knew it was going to be a pain but it was way harder when the PO was a idiot and instead of padding or sound deadening he used a couple of pieces of the old carpet he was replacing and glued the whole thing down. Had to use some old wood chisels to pry every inch of it off the floor. Tomorrow will see what surprises the rear has in store. Also the bulb holder on the left kick panel is missing it was tied up with a wire. The part is 15.00$ but the shipping is 12.00$ how can it cost that much to ship a part that weighs 4 ounces. Good times.

Agree. Some of the Corvette vendors not only charge a premium for parts but also a premium for shipping.

Check out Lectric Limited - https://www.lectriclimited.com/ I recently picked up a new glove box lamp socket from them for my '73. Cost was no more than anywhere else but shipping was 1/4 to 1/2 the cost of others.

I've also had some success avoiding the Corvette tax by checking with RockAuto before I make a purchase.

Good luck,

DC

Is that a universal part Napa might have (or another parts store)?

On my 73, Bubba or one of his cousins poured a quart of black sealant all over the wiper trough and wiper arm pivots. Not only did it look terrible, the wiper arms would not come off. I used some masking tape to make a dam on the wiper trough and poured on some Goo Gone. I let it sit on the sealant (THAT WAS HARD AS STEEL) for 30 minutes and then started scraping with a plastic trim removal tool. The trough had been painted black, and the Goo Gone removed the harden sealer. Recently i used the spray Goo Gone to remove road tar/paint spots that were on the wheel wells of my 88 Pontiac. Just be sure to leave it on for a good amount of time. Also when finished, I spray the area with soapy water. Good Luck.

Try a heat gun on that glue and goo! Worked great for me. Let it get soft and then use a scraper. Have a beer and put some good music on before you get started! Good luck!
