Default Opinions please-side grill

I'm been pondering on what to do with the side egg crates on my 71-

I've seen numerous ideas but nothing really jumped out at me-

Here's some ideas I've narrowed it down to- open it up a bit and use either a diamond mesh or maybe a honeycomb.

What say you?

A

B

C

D

Where it's going-

Option D looks the cleanest/sleekest, unless you open it up completely.

Here's another option, you can probably guess the source.

Is there a possibility you could install this type of mesh or smaller either vertically or horizontally in one of the above grill designs to mimic/capture the look of your engines EFI small stacks (what do you call those damn things).

Has to be option B because the number of slots matches the number of cylinders

Of your four options I like D. Of all ideas presented I like the JJ one posted by Bikespace.

Option D is too obviously tacked on top of things like a big ol' grommet. If you make it flush it's the clear choice and contains elements of the 68's and 69's which were always the best 'Stingray' design.

Personal preference is D. All others just look a little too busy to me.

Hey Brian-
Velocity stacks!!

Once I cut it up- the mesh will be the easy part.

Just a quick search and there are tons of them out there- haven't decided yet-

Thanks guys- I'm gonna go with the D version

No, the other one who drives cars.
https://www.corvetteblogger.com/2014...ncept-at-sema/

You'd have to model it and 3D print it (probably what Chevrolet did for the SEMA car), but you wouldn't need NASCAR or NFL money to make it, just some time, paint, and maybe $30- worth of filament.

Good choice though! Don't forget to update this thread (too) when you get it completed.

Image me being a smart a$$!!!!

I haven't made the step to a 3d printer yet- I'm using a company called "emachineshop.com" - use their free CAD software and they make it for you.

I actually saw the car on the Hotrod Power tour 2015 -

A little late to the vote B or D..... I'd say with grill style/type, I'd say just stay away from those stuff that looks like you can buy at lowes/homedepot. Ha.

Forgive me for not knowing but are these usually body color or have some chrome trim along the grills?

Sorry polls are closed!!!

Hey Ryan-

Yes they are painted body color. Top one is from my 71 - bottom is a 70 that I hacked up.

The 70 has thinner horizontal fins- and that's why I went with it.

I'm not a NCRS specialist- but supposedly the 70 was not chrome on the vertical fins edges (not stepped like the 71)

Richard

I like how your designs & JJ's look ... my preference not simply about OE cachet ... Me Not about NCRS ... I like how OE LOOKS just as much as any other.

IIRC, prior to C3 were several great looking European cars with similar styling cue in front fender.

I like option D, except for the gawd-awful perimeter of it. Too thick....makes it look like an "add-on" item (which it is). Like mentioned above, if you can alter it to make it fit INTO the available space, so that it looks like part of the car, it would be a winner in my book.

After lots of grinding -and filing- had some perfed metal around- here's the results-

I like it- now should I paint body color and have the chrome edges...chrome everything... maybe gunmetal to match the wheels...paint the grill material black... decisions decisions!!
