The AC system consists of many parts that are located under the hood, exactly what part are you referring to?

I’m getting ready to rebuild the A/C in my ‘77 with almost all new components. I’m going to take lots of pictures and do a thread on it if you’re interested in following along.

The evaporator/heater box/case appears to be the same for 78 to 82.

Curious. What's the purpose of the "wad of putty over that thermocouple"?
Keeps it from vibrating, heat, what?

my old putty crumbled away when i replaced heater hoses and heater core..so weird how the vacuum shut off valve just hangs in the air..so my guess is
- insulation so it reads whats on pipe not effected by engine compartment temperatures..
- vibration
- keeps the stupid vacuum shut off from tearing it up..
i used some electrical amazon dope for exterior head gap filler..
this stuff
