Default 1981 Steering Column Question

Pulling the tachometer to repair on my 1981 C3 and the directions told me to pull the 2 large bolts to drop my steering column.

Removed the bolts but it wont drop. Don’t see anything else holding it up. It’s a telescoping column am I missing anything?

You may want to loosen the collar attachment bolted into the firewall also. Pulling the two mounting bolts SHOULD release it enough to get the console out. Rotate lens forward from the top. Cover column with cloth to protect it.
Wilcox has a how to on their website.

Are you sure it's the tach ..and not the wiring or connector by the distributor?

With the two bolts removed it should give you enough clearance to remove the housing by pushing downward while removing the cluster.

But.... There is always a butt...

For tachometer testing you don't need to remove the cluster.. Follow the steps listed here and you can see how to access the tachometer without pulling the entire cluster.... and it works way better leaving the cluster in place because you can also ping and test the wires.
