Default 69 Rally wheel backspace issue

Hi all,
Finally got around to having tires mounted on the ‘original’ 8x15 Rally rims that came with the car. Putting new beauty rings on, and realized that I have three different backspaces between 4 rims. Does anyone know what the correct wheel backspace should be for front and rear on a 69?
FYI, I got 255-60-R15’s for the rear, and just by chance, mounted them on the wheels with the deepest backspace, so they hit the e-brake bracket. I’m assuming that once I switch them to the correct backspace, they’ll clear? Any input appreciated, thanks.

factory is 4inch backspacing

15x8 with 4" BS will clear on all 4 provided with proper tire clearance. I ran 275/60/15 on the factory rallys on the rear at times with no issues, 255's might rub on the front with full lock, but will clear.

They should all have the same backspace. By the valve stem you should have two letters, AZ. If any rim does not have AZ by the valve stem then it’s not a 69 Corvette rim. GM made lots of rally wheels for lots of different cars with different back spaces for each application based on the car it was going on.

All 69-82 Corvettes came standard with AZ code, 4" backspace, 15x8 rally wheels. Are you sure all of the wheels are 15x8 AZ rally's? Chevrolet 15x8 rally's were only ever made in 4" backspace, while 15x7's came in both 3 3/4" (68 Corvette) and 4 1/4" (68-69 Z/28 & 71 up Monte Carlo, Chevelle, etc) backspaces. From the front, the 15x7's look about the same as 15x8's, and take the same trim ring. A lot of people have been fooled by the 71 up Chevelle FW code 4 1/4" backspace rally wheels, thinking they were Corvette wheels.

Chevrolet also made 15x6's in 4 1/16" and 3 1/2" backspace, but these don't appear as deep from the front, and the 15x8 trim ring won't fit on them.

Thanks to everyone for the replies, as always, you guys are a great source of knowledge and a huge help.

Checked the codes on my rims, I have two ‘AZ’ rims, one ‘YH’, and one ‘AG’. Quick Google search shows these as 15x7 (yes, apparently I can’t tell the difference between a 7” and an 8” rim...), YH goes to a 69 Camaro, AG goes to a 68 Corvette. The date code on the AG is K18 8 (hole) 0. Anyone know if these have any value?

Thanks again for all

the info.

put the AG 68 rim on our for sale section, I'm sure someone will want it, being one year only production and all.

At his point I would think checking the spare would be a good idea.
Just to make sure it will fit when needed.

The 68 "AG" rally wheel is probably worth $100-$200, depending on the date and condition, while the Camaro "YH" is worth at least $300-$350, if it has a late 68 or 69 date. The YH wheel was only used on 69 Z/28's, and maybe 427 COPO's, making them difficult to find, and quite desirable to Camaro owners.
