I appreciate any help you can provide. My tach was working just fine and then one day it just stopped working so I searched the forum and found out how to diagnose the problem and soon found out my tach drive gear was chewed up on one side. I ordered and installed a new drive gear and it worked...for about two blocks. Then the tach went dead again. Upon inspection, it chewed up the new drive gear too.
What do need to replace in order to fix this correctly? How do I do that?
What year is your distributor? Did you replace the thrust button along with the tach gear? Did you inspect the distributor's shaft gear that mates with the tach gear?
There are a number of distributor rebuilding documents here and on the NCRS forum that will instruct you on what needs to be inspected, measured, drilled (if needed), and how to assemble.
