Putting an auto gearbox in park engages a pin to stop the internal gears rotating , as your tail shaft / differential and wheels are all attached to the gearbox then that stops the car rolling.
jack up back wheels. spin them. disconnect shifter linkage at trans. cycle it back and forth and see if it goes a little farther and latches the park mechanism. always start with the repair that doesn't require buying parts. then go to the repair that requires cheap parts. then look into whether or not you need an expensive part.

great advice. Love not spending money if I don’t have to! Thx.
So I took all you guys said to do and found the problem. I took the shifting bracket off and saw there was a peg on the back side that was hitting the edge of transmissions pan. It was not allowing it to go all the way into park. I ground down the extra peg and boom. It works. I’m going to assum me the kid I bought it from put the wrong bracket on. I have looked at that before, but did not pay much attention to it. Thank you all for your recommendations. I’m deaf not a mechanic lol. But I’m learning.
