Have the center console out to fix some other wiring stuff and got me wondering what this lamp is supposed to be for? It's at the very top of the center console on my '77. It's obviously wired separate from the PCB, but I don't ever recall it being on. And if it was on, would I have even noticed? It looks like it's in an enclosed space. Maybe it's performing some special function that I'm not aware of...
Ahhh. This makes sense. It looks like at some point along the way, mine was switched out with a regular old bulb. The bulb worked when I tested it while the console is out, but I never noticed it doing anything while it was in. Thanks for the reply!
This is not one of Chevrolet's best designs. This set up never did light up the heater controls very well but there is a huge difference between using the correct bulb like bmotojoe posted and using just a regular 194 bulb, which most cars seem to end up with.
Cheers, Greg
In case anyone else needs to replace this bulb with the correct one, I couldnt find the right one at any of the local auto stores. I ordered online at this link: https://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/M4494.html
