Went to rock auto and summit websites to order shocks. Those websites are weak. Good prices but vague info. No one to verify that I’m ordering the right shock. I’ll just do some more shopping around. Really need shocks.
I've done it and it wasn't too bad, the generally accepted quickest method to remove the old ones is an air chisel once you have the A arms off the car. I don't have one so I used a hole saw to drill the rubber out, that got rid of the inner bush, carefully split the outer with a hacksaw, then collapsed it with a chisel. Most of the work is removing the A arms, getting the ball joints to release, springs out, if you have air con the compressor might get in your way. There are plenty of posts on the forum covering this project.
As far as shocks go, I run Bilstein's, HD front with aftermarket med duty springs and Sport in the back with a VBP 330lb mono spring. This combo works well for our roads (no billiard table like roads round here).
Thanx for the reply. Tools are not an issue. I have built up quite a collection in my years of doing my best to maintain my own cars.Just wanted some feedback from others that have tackled this job. I remember not having tools back in 79’, I pressed out then pressed in new using a floor jack, sockets and the bottom of my car. Those were the days. I’ll take a closer look at the front end this weekend. Now I’m pretty sure this is something that I can safely do. Thanx
