Default 69 front speakers

Not a lot of room here. What have you guys used here with good results? Just pulled out this old speaker. There is a light just hanging, seems to be missing a bracket.

I managed to fit some Boston Acoustic 6-1/2" speakers in that location. The magnets were the perfect size to fit in the recessed pocket your picture shows.

Yes, there should be a bracket on the backside of the dash knee pad for this light.

The '69 speakers were 4"x10", I believe. You might see if you can find a good quality 'oval' speaker that will fit in that same area (ie, 6x9?). You might go with a 2-way (bass and mid-range) 5-1/4" round instead. The most important aspect of the speaker you choose is the speaker impedance. It needs to match the output impedance of the radio head you have. The original Delco had a 10 ohm impedance. 8 ohm speakers (or two 4-ohm speakers wired in series) is a good match for the Delco head. Most modern systems want 4-ohm speakers.

The speakers should also match their 'efficiency' to the power capability of the radio head. Delco wants very efficient, low power speakers. Modern high-power units want inefficient high-power speakers. Lots of issues to consider. Good luck.

Dc3 and 7t1 Vette, thanx for your responses. I was gonna try and find a speaker that actually fit behind the factory grill. Didn’t want to cut it. If cut are replacements available? Looking at your pic DC3 I am missing the top slanted grill too. Is the grill piece and bulb holder available through the vendors? Also I don’t have a deacon radio. Car came with an old Blaupunk radio. Just took another look at my grill. Looks like someone already cut it. This round thing sticks out. Any idea what it is?

Looking at my radio a little closer it looks like the opening has already been cut. If so might as well just update the radio.

Should be available. At least they were for my '73 when I did this project.

That 'round thing' is a vacuum servo to operate the cabin air inlet door [behind it]. You want to keep that....

Thanx, but I wasn’t planning on removing it. Just wondering why it sticks out. I saw a pic of another car and I don’t think it was sticking out.
By the way, I ordered some Polk audio speakers yesterday.
