Hi Guys, So Im getting around to repairing the drivers side dash on my 68 roadster. The headlight switch had caught fire, melted the transition tubes , lens covers and the dash pad. Over time I've replaced all the parts. Getting ready to start assembly. My question is I don't know how the heater duct connects to the silver ball assembly. I have the black retainer ring and the ball. The screws holding down the black retainer ring had remains of a broken off plastic tab on each nut?? Am I missing some type of transition tube? I cannot find a schematic for the 68. Can any body help me? Thanks Buddy"

on my 68 the ***** are held in by pressure of the tube and the dash,I dont have the assembly that holds miine in otherwise. Not saying there wasnt one originally. I just dont have anything and it works fine. Unless youre referring to the funnel shaped piece that acts as a socket for the ball to rotate in. I'll try and grab a pick after breakfast. I found small things like that on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...fresh+air+vent
My 68 has a funnel similar to this but it doesnt have the lver to shut it off like these, its just the duct and I turn the ball to turn off the air. I dont know if these are late 68 closing vents or 69 and later https://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-1977-C...QAAOSw7wZeTKzG
Getting the dash on and the wiring harness tucked in so it fits is your next issue. the 68 had different routes that werre used, across the top of the speedo/ tach, diagonally through, then across the bottom. If you dont recall where it was when it was taken apart you may have to experiment

The dash ***** get held in place by the resistance to the felt seals in front and back of the ball. To insert or remove the ball from the dash pad area, just turn the ball 90 degrees to the side (ball outlets facing dead right and left) and pull the ball out or push it in. Since it is 'sideways', there is less surface area touching the seals and it will enter/exit as you need.
Thanks, I have no idea how it goes back together, the speedo side was completely melted when I got the car, the fire burned up some of the vacuum lines and the antenna cable. So I guess trial and error will get it put back together.

Did you buy a new wiring harness? Lectric Limited makes a good one, they een sell updated ones with the new style fuses and beefier wires for bigger alternators
I was lucky only the headlight switch wiring was damaged. I purchased a used complete 68 wiring harness, which I harvested the headlight switch wiring out of. Im going to solder and shrink wrap the repaired wires. What Im finding is the black sockets that hold the small bulbs are breaking as I try to remove them from the speedometer housing, the metal stays in the housing and the black housing is just pulling off leaving the bulbs stuck in the metal speedometer housing. Any suggestions??
Here you go. All the info you want for sockets, part numbers, and alternatives. I went to LED strip lighting but some folks use the 2-wire sockets..... I recommend strip lighting from my exerience.
Thanks again you rock!! The info you hooked me up with is awesome, great detailed views. I found the part I needed for the fresh air vent, you can see the 3 broken tabs. I have a passengers side one , thats adjustable that is complete with screw tabs in place. Im going to remove the added adjustment hardware looks like its an exact fit?? Thanks again for all your help. Buddy"
