Default Introduction

Hello!

My name is Tim from NJ. To be honest I have minimal car knowledge and honestly never really sparked my interest until recently. My step dad has a 77 Corvette, hasn’t drove it in a couple years. I decided to take a look and see. Got it on the road was having brake problems and through the forum it game me a starting point. Once in the car i was like wow this is awesome. So he’s happy that I made the move to get it going. Now we are interested in more. Whether it’s things we need to have done professional or things we can try we are ok. However we just really don’t know where to start. After having a check it’s need shocks so that’s first, other than that eventually would like to do more. I guess we are just looking for resources or ideas. I think we should focus on suspension and handling since we are dealing with the shocks first and maybe to from there. I’d love to see opinions and thoughts that would be great!

I'm going to move this to the C3 General section where you will find a lot of information and very helpful members that should be able to assist you with the car. Welcome and hope you find the forum enjoyable.

Welcome to the forum Tim! I too have a 77 and everything I’ve learned about it came from right here. I started much like you, sorting brakes. There have been many projects along the way in the last 3 years or so and I’ve got a LOOOONG way to go. The best advice I can give you is to make a list of things you want to do to the car. Start with safety related items first, then move on to whatever strikes your fancy. There’s plenty to do on a 43 year old car, so I’m sure you won’t want for projects!

Most of all have fun and ask lots of questions here!

Common saying around here is "Make it go, make stop, make it safe, make it pretty, make it go faster." Not a bad cliche! Easy to remember. Be sure and give us lots of pics, and above all enjoy the time with family. That is what makes the car really special. Glad to have you along

Get the car safely drivable. Once that's done, you and your father can determine what else you might want to do.

Welcome aboard. It would be wise to purchase 1977 Chevrolet Service Manual, even if there are repairs you will have a shop perform. Also the factory AIM (assembly instruction manual) provides even more detail. Both books can be found on eBay at a reasonable cost. Post questions on the forum, the members are always very helpful, but please give specifics of your car, ie year, engine size, PB, PS, etc. Enjoy your new hobby!

Welcome. Good to hear you connected with him over the car.

Take a car for a drive and make a list of mechanical and cosmetic issues you'd like to tackle.
