Once I get the results of the compression test from my mechanic buddy Saturday I will make that decision. I know that there is an extremely unlikely chance it will be as they stated but figured I would have facts prior to pushing that whole situation as I was able to stop it and was not hurt in the end..... Yet still anxious to see what another test yields....

Timely post...my local shop just told me I have a couple of cyl. at 60 psi! I did ask them to check it. Seems to me that the engine would not run right if that bad. It does smoke at start up and smells like 1968 rich all the time but runs really well and pulls strong. I am going to check it myself when I get it back.

Thought only Camaros has cortez silver...in person it looks great
If it runs smooth, strong good oil pressure just keep running it.
Touch of smoke on start up isnt a big deal

It is a production color for the '70 …. Don't see too many of them but I really like it.... Oil pressure is very strong, running perfect and no smoking at start up....

Hey, just curious, if you ever get the results from your buddy (doing another compression test)?

Well they certainly did terrific work on the cosmetic stuff, top end repaint and new interior, etc.

Maybe that's their area of expertise.

I know my local Vette could pull an engine and make it look pretty, but I did not see one piece of engine or head work equipment in the place, so they just farm it all out.

Where I got my engine built, they do all the machining, balancing, blue-printing, building and even the Dyno in-house, They have done 5000 engine builds, of all brands, from 40 HP to 2000. That's all they do. And they rarely ever install one into a customer's car anymore.

Mark G… Not yet... You know how it is.. Once you get it back and it seems to be running perfect it suddenly does not seem a priority. I am however going to get it over to him for a test in the next week. If it is much better, which I suspect, than reported by original shop I will be a bit upset.

Three months down the road now and I finally got the car to my master mechanic buddy at the local Firestone. He ran the test yesterday and gave me the following note.. Official paperwork to be picked up today when I snag the car. Anyways, according to him, I am in good shape and the engine is 100% fine. I dont necessarily know the proper numbers as I am not nearly as mechanical as most you guys but here they are:

You're golden.
They are the right value.
And best of all they are all almost identical!
And doesn't smoke on start and chirps the tires?
I'd say it's in Great Shape!
