I see many other regulars jumping on the post with opinions and here are mine!

Its is the smaller L48 engine.
While a Pace Car owner, and one with 56k miles, any Pace Car with "a 80K mileage in nice shape with a lot of work done to it for $14-15K but mostly all original-With a lot of receipts and documentation" is suspect. It's the "lots of work done" that undermines values of Pace Cars and an L48 without four-speed drops whatever value it may have significantly.

I also found a 79 with less miles and the larger L82 in it with less miles and the interior completely redone, along with badging, paint and basic engine upgrades...new carb, brakes master cylinder etc. For 13K. In my reading the Pace car is the more valuable of the two....cause of the limited production run. I am planning on garaging it and using during the summer/weekends etc. Thanks for your input in advance.
I'm never impressed by engine upgrades, like new carb, brakes, etc...why did the previous owner not rebuild what was there? Well I would give a break to brakes and M/C as a safety item but once mechanicals start to get replaced, I wonder what else?

I'm with interpon...which one has a four-speed! Now there's value!

The 1978 Pace-car is the last thing that Bill Mitchell ever designed before he retired.
In the day, NOBODY ever put the silver UNDER the black...'twas always the opposite.

Sweet pick!

A number? It's like an L48 automatic with a chrome-plated engine, rusted M/C and the A/C compressor does not even have a belt on it. Pass on this and I love Pace Cars.

Great points. You are so right the 79 seems bigger and louder with the side pipes and all....but I do love the pace car always a classic in my mind. So completely different modes.

Which one speaks to you? Your wife is correct about the Pace Car decals, but if that's what you want...

Have you driven either one yet? They both have headers, but the 79 has them into side pipes, so expect it to be louder. Whichever one is tuned better, has fresh bushings, and a proper alignment, will seem crisper to drive. The automatic may make it seem underwhelming, though.

Black 79s are favorite, and the best looking of all Corvettes without chrome bumpers. That interior is interesting. Check the trim panel inside the driver's door jamb for the paint and interior codes. Based on the steering column and Grant steering wheel, I bet it was a doeskin interior (592) that someone converted to black. But the door panels, carpet, and seat cushions are also easy to replace. Perhaps it was a black on black car originally (19 and 192).

More codes to check here, if you are interested.

And there are a lot of other 78 and 79 cars out there!
