On my car the two hoses are different sizes. However they do make an adaptor that allows the two hoses at the heater core end to be clamped together bypassing the core all together. I tried it and it works but wanted the ease of just turning a valve.
Look at the water pump. There is a small inline valve screwed into the pump. Then the stock hose fitting screws into the valve. You shut the valve and it stops the flow and circulation off of hot coolant to the heater core. I never thought it would be as effective as it. You can really tell the difference

ohhhh ok, seems pretty simple. What valve did you use on this?
ball valve. but you could just buy a 1 or 2 foot piece of heater hose. remove the 2 heater hoses at block and water pump. put the new piece from 1 to the other. no hoses cut. no messing with unhooking from firewall where you can crack heater core pulling on the hose.
