Just did both of them this Spring on my 69. Go about it systematically, replacing each connection by connection, and you should be OK. You can route the fiber-optic head from the forward wiring harness without completely removing the dash by removing the center gauge console and removing the screws from the dash. Pulling the dash forward, you can route the fiber optic head through the 2 wire loops starting on the side near the headlight switch.

When I did mine I started on the end closest to the firewall. It’s the easiest way to make it fit. The headlight wiring is the trickiest to keep it from snagging on moving parts. When I got their I laid to across the nose support to get an idea where the leads wanted to go
the alternator wires look different on my new harness VS my old one.does the boot go over where the previous wire is in? I see a lot of burnt wiring around this part, is bad wiring causing this ?
Ended up finishing the front lamp harness. Nothing was grounded, all other grounds were just dangling. Had to cut the screws from the horn relay and put in a new relay. Added some new parts I know need after being under the car.
I just have the ground wire for the alternator, can I just buy a bolt and bolt it to where the hole in the picture is?
Finally four around to finishing this job this weekend. Had to remove starter for the wiring, the ground cable and both battery cables were all hooked up to the top terminal on the starter, hence the wire being burnt I guess. The alternator also had no ground, again burnt wiring.
