Default '75 Door Latch Assembly

Hey,

I did some searching, there isn't much on the forums or the internet for removing and replacing the door latch assembly. I have removed the door latch assembly from the door, and have spent considerable time trying to finagle it out from the small access panel in the door, but with no luck in removing it.

At this point I am considering removing the door glass, or making a small cut/indent in the door panel to provide the necessary clearance, but before I do I wanted to check here and see if anyone has performed this, and how they were able to remove the latch assembly.

You're talking about the big access hole at the bottom of the door? My latches came right out it yesterday. Roll the window up to get the latch below the glass. It does not fit out through the hole in the top of the door but you reaching through to unbolt the door latch nuts.

the latch does not fit through this hole.
Has to go in-out through the bottom.

First you need a really good light source to make the job easier. If you remove the key lock, take pictures as it needs to be oriented correctly or you will have to remove everything. Don’t ask me how I know. Clean all parts then apply grease to all parts before/after installation. I like the synthetic stuff in a tube.

First, I would recommend either disconnecting the battery or pulling the fuse for the dome light. The door will be open for hours, days?
Not all models look like the photos above. Some changes over the yrs.
Try YouTube. C3 Corvette Door Handle / latch. Very helpful.

Also, buy one of those magnetic reach tools. You will drop fasteners down inside the door multiple times.

Of course, the bottom! Once again, immensely helpful, thank you all.

Just goes to show, sometimes you need to step back and think about it a little different, and ask for help. Latch out, and without cutting anything! You're all gentlemen and scholars.

Everything is easy when you know how. Easier anyway.
