Hello Gang,
I have a '70 convertible that has the original radio/stereo and speaker equipment intact. I want to leave it just the way it is thus leading me to ask if someone has found a way to do this as well as have a decent upgrade option that takes little space/wiring etc? I would like to be able to 'hide' anything I put in there if at all possible. With the little amount of room in the back given the ragtop is always down I am curious what any others have done that does not include new holes in panels and the like?
Thanks for sharing if indeed you have such a system....
Just get yourself one of these. A charge lasts 5 or 6 hours. Bluetooth to your phone to control and stream music. Throw it in the rear compartment and it sounds fine. Take it out when you leave the car, or throw it in the storage bin. No need to hack up any wiring or panels. Only thing missing is being able to listen to radio. Works great in my '72 convert.
Only other good options would be a box placed in the rear compartment, but that start to take up room and interferes with the convertible top storage.

I have tried a similar brand and was not happy as I could not hear it above about 40 MPH with the top down. Maybe it was not of this quality. You can hear it just fine a highway speeds?
I think it is the Flip 5. JBL has a larger unit as well. Honestly, I don't think have ever tried listening to it at highway speeds - I'm not sure I could hear much of anything cruising at 70mph with the top down (except for the wind) . Might want to give the Charge 4 a try - its a bit bigger and probably has a higher volume output.

Thanks... I actually went to their site and purchased the JBL 'boombox' and figure if it does not do the trick I will try something different.....
Simple solution I use is the C3 speaker box that fits across the back behind the soft top. Add a set of 6X9's and bolted a bluetooth amp to it.
I use the iPhone as a source. Plenty loud.

My solution was a set of Sanderson headers and Allens chambered exhaust. Seriously, ignore the stock system and do a some coaxial speakers in a box or some surface mount speakers behind the seats. Connect a bluetooth enabled amp to your phone or to a dedicated MP3 player. Since the battery is right there, amp hookup is a snap and you don't have to hack up the car or touch the stock radio.

I installed a modern head unit, new 4x7 speakers in the dash [when I changed the pad] and put two 6x9 speakers with small boxes in the bock under the ragtop. Sounds pretty good, but I have plans to add an amp so I can really rock out!
Will see how the JBL Boombox works out... If it is a no go will look into other ideas.
The other really good thing about the JBL units is you can simply take it out and not worry about it getting stolen. That big JBL unit should really pump out some sound.
I am hoping so.... In the case it is not quite enough the description says you can pair it with a second one and run them together so we will see if that is needed.
If your top is always down don't bother putting speakers in the rear because the lowered top will block the sound. I spent big money having my stock 1970 radio updated to modern electronics with an AUX cord to listen to music on my phone. If I had to do it over again I would buy a small 4 channel Bluetooth amp and hide it under the seat and just play music off my phone.
The JBL Boombox arrived and is awesome!!! More sound than needed ! Perfect $400 car audio system allowing to leave original intact !!!!!
Shout out to Gguillot !!!!
Glad to hear it worked out for you. My little Flip 4 is the size of a can of coke, and is impressive for what it is - I can only imagine how much better the BoomBox is.

Suffice it to say it is more than this 55 year old needs.... Very crisp sound ! Perfect option !
Bought a bungee net that stabilizes the JBL right behind and in the center of the seats. Very easy to unhook for compartments and whatever else.. Great solution !!!!
