Hey everyone. Apparently I have an early addition Turbo 400 in my 73 and when I ordered the new rear support bushing it had 3 3/4” hole spacing to attach to the tail shaft, and my old one is 4 1/4”. Anyone know a part number or where to get the correct mount? Appears that most places only have the 3 3/4”, including The main Corvette parts places online.
i ran into this problem when trying to fix the leak at my shift rod. No seal, just an O ring.
thanks for your help.
You are correct according to the part everyone sells for 68 and up. I guess it is likely that my transmission was replaced at some time with an earlier version 64-67, because the selector shift uses an o ring rather than a seal, which was the style in early years. Perhaps the tail shaft is slightly different as well, thus the 4 1/4” hole pattern for the rear mount. I’ll try looking at earlier mounts and see if they list the width between holes, or just get a universal mount that I have seen.
Thanks!
Some TH350 had the long tailshaft housing & tailshaft. It depended on which GM model it was going in.
Perhaps the TH400 has this same issue and has the different mount. IDK
You should Google: Images of TH350 & TH400 pans. Then verify you actually have the 400. The pans shape give away what trans it is.
Who knows what trans you have after 47yrs?
