Side pipe mounting brackets not lining up with frame holes
Just fitted up our sidepipes on our '72 Vette, but the brackets don't seem to line up with the existing holes in the frame at all when the pipes are set to where they look about right. We could be missing something completely, and if so please point it out so its an easy fix; but, if it is a problem with the pipes, our thought is to cut the bracket mounted to the pipes at the bend, and bolt to it a 2" wide aluminum strip with a bend in it that goes to the bottom of the frame where we can mount it using their bushing. Thoughts?
I opted to extend or make the elongate the frame holes to match the pipe brackets. Yeah if you have the tools to cut and weld brackets that's a good option too. I also bent the brackets a bit to slightly aim the pipe down and be parallel with the frame. Looking good.
Aluminum brackets look good but tend to crack/break from vibration. I/4" thick aluminum may last longer.
I fabricated 1/4" thick steer brackets to fit the mis-aligned frame holes. If you are not concerned about originality, drill new frame holes to fit your factory brackets.
My Dougs came with T bolts but I did have some trouble aligning the tabs similar to OP. I had to bend one side, install everything loose (including the engine side) then tighten everything together and again when hot. I think the passenger side is still alittle higher than the drivers but you wouldn't notice unless I told you.
