Default A pillar gauge pod

I’ve been asked about my gauge pods. Origianally I had a single gauge pod for my AEM a/fr gauge but decided I wanted my fuel pressure and vacuum visible as well. I didn’t want to permanently alter the interior so I bought a 3 gauge pod that fit over the existing A pillar pad. I heated and expanded the sides so it was a tight fit over the pad and fit down beside dash pad. I ran the wiring up in that same gap and the pod covers them. At the top I heated it enough to match the 90 degree change. It isn’t perfect but it isn’t visible because of the angle. To secure it I measured and matched the existing holes on the pillar side and top.

I've been thinking about something similar. Thanks for posting. Do you hit you head on it getting in and out?

It's interesting that you have screws on the side of the A pillar cover. Mine only screws in at the top and are a friction fit between the upper dash pad and pillar.

Can I PM you a few questions about your steering column/horn/horn button set-up? It looks exactly like I what am trying to do. FR column delivered lat last week.

Yes feel free to pm. I don’t usually hit my head on them but I did the other day when I wasn’t paying attention. The steering column is an IDIDIT tilt column but it only tilts up slightly. The steering wheel was a new release last year, I’ll edit it and add it in a minute. The horn is stock.

Edit

I believe it was this Grant wheel

the A pillar screws could be wrong, Bubba was a care taker of my vehicle before I rescued it....

Thanks Rescue! Looks clean. What was your process for manipulating the top of the gauge pod?
Thanks again

The concept is fine and it looks appropriate for the car. Interesting....

i used a heat gun and leather gloves. I think I had a round handled screwdriver to use as a form as well. It heats up really fast and trying what ever tool i had to use as a form. At the end I think i had it still malleable and shoved the bottom in and push the top together to get it to lay flat....again the pod is soft plastic that feels brittle but melts at a low temp

Kevin asked about how I hooked up my horn. It's mostly stock parts that pieced togther, my original was pretty Bubba'd by the po but I was able to get it to work with the IDIDIT column and steering wheel adapter.. Some extra insulation was needed due to the universal fit

Bottom horn contact. I had to insulate the tabs with gaff tape

You can see I added girth to the horn post due to the size of the hole in the adapter. The girth keeps it centered so the horn post doesn't fall off the spring loaded ground pin

You can see the hole diameter in the adapter would let the pin move enough to fall off this tiny post on the button contact

I used a short piece of hose to insulate the top of the pin and keep it centered in the IDIDIT adapter

An insulated spring to prevent grounding

How it looks installed

Installing the button with plastic screws I got at Ace hardware

thanks, its installed with zero extra holes drilled into the pillar or the dash so If it needs to come out, i can pull it off and put the screws back in the existing holes. And it kept me from having to alter any of the original dash which i didnt want to do

Its a generic A pillar mount from Amazon if i remember correctly. I heated to top to make it comfortable, dyed it with the proper color and used the existing pillar screws to hold it in. The bottom slides in along side the dash pad
