Son bought his first real project...'75 Stingray. We need some rims to be able to roll it around the shop. The rims that I have hit the calipers when lugs are tightened. We had to put washers on a couple lugs to space them out to get it on the trailer. What rims/tires can we use to roll this thing around?
If you are only rolling it around what is wrong with what you have.
Otherwise you need to decide what rims you want for the car, the original ralley or aluminum wheels or aftermarket.
For what it is worth the stock wheels are 8" wide with a backspace of 4".
I would like for him to be able to put it on the lift and not worry about only two lugs on each wheel with washers as spacers. It will be awhile before this car will be close to a road

If it will be awhile, buy a cheap set of Rallys, preferably without trim rings or caps for as cheap as possible. you can always sell them later and get most your $ back.

you can also buy thin spacers

Heck, just to to a junk yard and look for them. If they are only temp you can go any GM 15" rallye that's got the correct backspace and lug pattern.
Maybe even find 7" wide cheaper
Though not widely available until later, the aluminum wheels, known by their option code YJ8, were Zora's choice for his retirement Corvette. You can sometimes find them on Craigslist for $400- or so, and they polish up well if you decide to keep them. Otherwise, they don't depreciate.
Do you have a local Corvette club? Perhaps someone can loan you a set, with non-road-worthy tires.
Here are prototype YJ8s on a batch of 73 test Corvettes.
