Default Parking brake handle

The button and a spring popped out when I applied the parking brake. All I was able to find inside my '74 coupe were the button and spring. Have I lost another part or is this all? How do i reinstall the button and spring or do I have to replace the whole handle?

I think you may have to replace the whole handle...I had an issue with the plastic handle sliding on the chrome and all I could find was new handles, no parts. Willcox would know, call Ernie monday and ask, Its your best choice

Welcome to the forum,

I just replaced the handle in my '73. All I needed was a new grip but couldn't find one so I had to buy a whole new handle. The replacement handle I received from Eckler's was surprisingly good quality (about $100). One of the better reproduction parts I've ever received.

As best I can tell from my research, the buttons and grips are not designed to be replaced. The buttons are a one time install and if they get pulled off, they won't stay in place again without some very good glue.

I didn't take my old one apart but I think you are correct, the button and spring are the only parts that should have popped off.

I don't believe there is nothing else other than the spring and button, it's just pressed on.
If it won't stay in place, you can use a small pair of vice-grips top reach in and just over-tighten them onto the last bit of the rod to flatten/deform it, sort of like knurling so it has some grip onto the plastic button, also add a few drops of gel-type crazy-glue into the hole will probably help as well

My button came off as well some years ago.
I used a plastic to metal epoxy and it has stayed on for a number of years.

We rebuilt our 71 parking brake handle, and it went back together pretty well, with just a bit of epoxy as mentioned above.
