Default Swapping clutch fork pivot

I installed a new clutch in my 72 and after putting the trans in, the clutch adjustment was way off. Same old story. Everything looked the same so I used the old pivot since it looked fine. Turns out the one that came with the clutch was a little longer. So I had to change out the pivot and wasn't looking forward to dropping the trans again. I'm 65 and working alone. I previously cut the heads off of 2 longer bolts down to 3 1/4" to replace the top two bolts to help guide the trans back in. So I started thinking and figured out I could use those two cut off bolts on the driver's side plus two 1/2 -13 eight inch long bolts to replace the two bolts on the passenger side (they wont fit on the driver side - too long). Once the 4 bolts were removed and replaced with these, I simply greased up the long bolts and was able to slide the trans straight back. The bolts held the trans up in front, and the back of the trans rests on the cross member so no jack is needed and no trans removal. There was plenty of room to get my hands in to remove the throw out bearing and take the fork off the old ball. Just be careful not to drop the T/O down into the bellhousing. Replaced the pivot, slid the fork back on the new one and then the throw out bearing, and slid the trans right back in and replaced the original bolts. The whole operation took me less than 30 minutes. The clutch release is perfect now. Maybe this will help someone else out.
