Default What am I missing?

In my search for the right corvette I have seen ads for numerous cars purporting to be "restored", with new carpet, interior pieces, etc. Many times there is a photo of the door open and you can see that the striker bolt has been painted the color of the body, like the photo below. It would seem if you're going to paint a car, one of the easiest things to do is either remove the bolt or mask it off. Why would someone spend so much time making a car more presentable and overlook this one glaring issue? Were they ever painted on some cars?

No they weren't ever painted. That's just real sloppy attention to detail.

"Restored" is one of the terms that owners and sellers throw around pretty loosely, like "survivor" and "matching numbers".

The strikers aren't the only thing the painter of that car didn't bother to tape off/remove, the door alignment blacks shouldn't be painted either. This type of workmanship is often the sign of a quick paint job to flip a car, but sometimes it's a lazy painter, sometimes it's an owner/painter that doesn't know any better, and then there are some people who actually believe that it qualifies as restoration.

yah, that bothers me too. when i see it i think the paint job is probably not good quality and i move on, of course i could be totally wrong. another thing that bothers me is seeing a carpet that was not vacuumed and dirty. if your going to list a car at least clean it.

The person who painted my car must have taped the post, before painting. Well after 47 years, when I adjusted the post so the doors latch correctly, you see a non painted area. Thank goodness for touch up paint.

Very rarely do you see strikers in a natural finish. Most get painted. I wouldn't say it's a sign of bad quality. I've seen many cars with $10k+ paint jobs that had the striker painted.

It just comes down to preference.

Original car never had this item completely painted from the factory. It could have over spray from a inspection touch up. If it is painted like the red one shown it is a respray a poor one at that. Also notice the metal trim with the 3 screws that is suppose to be body color. It a resale red looks to be a Cordovan Maroon Metallic 1968

I looks like a seat belts from China and they don’t even run up through the e brake console. Someone didn’t take their time fitting the carpet down neatly on the wheel well humps. I thought it is common knowledge to use a little 3M adhesive.

Would a painted lock post be a deal breaker for anybody?

No but it would give me pause as this is an easy item to be done right. What else did they miss or go 1/2 way or less on?

I agree, but I wouldn't necessarily turn away.

the sea tbelts, and the bubba radio delete plate would be more of a concern for me...and don't 68's have the rubber shift boot with the levels molded in?

If someone passed on a vehicle over a painted door striker, I think there's a bigger issue at play.
