Default Max air conditioning function

I have read other posts about this function on a C3 (1980) and I did a vacuum test on both accuators , they both function and hold vacuum. With my car running and Max air is selected both doors open and when normal air conditioning is selected both doors close. Other posts say the opposite.

Have you used this chart to diagnose whether the hoses are correctly set up on each port and that in Max position they function as described, either VAC or VENT

The only repair that has been done to my car was a HVAC selector switch 6 years ago, nothing else has been touched.

That's the switch with the ports, the hoses may have been installed incorrectly.

Ok, thank you. I looked at the Willcox HVAC vacuum schematic sheet and if I am reading it wright when Max air conditioning is selected vacuum is applied to passenger and outside air accuators?

I have a 79 and when Max air is selected the door is closed (ie air recirculates inside the car) and when normal air conditioning is selected door is open (ie fresh air is pulled into the car). This aligns with the GM service manual I have.

MAX air is basically same as normal, except the outside air intake is closed so there is no 'fresh' air exchange. That allows the 'trapped' air in the cabin to circulate and RE-cool until you feel it is cool enough inside to move it to 'normal' position.
