Default Hardtop?

Quick question...With the center hole and the hole over the headrest, does that mean my car came with a hardtop?

Thanks

Yes... my understanding is that other then 68, all hard top cars had the center hole.

It means your car was fitted for a hardtop at some point.

My December 1969 built convertible does not have the center hole. It was ordered with the hardtop.

Does your hardtop have the center bracket without the carriage bolt?

Is it possible to have a car that didn't have a hard top, to originally have a center hold?

That's just it, I don't have a hardtop for it. Was wondering if the center hole and the holes over the headrest were factory or dealer installed?

The chrome receivers behind the headrests were used for both hard and soft tops. The factory only drilled a center hole and put a stainless bezel around it when the car was ordered with a hardtop.

I'm pretty sure my May, 68 was ordered with a hardtop. It doesn't have the third center hole.

The Convertibles with the hardtop and soft top and the Coupes with the T tops, have pins that fit into the chrome plated mouldings at the extreme left and right ends of the windshield frame. My hardtop beat the **** out of these mouldings. To replace them, I had to remove (destroy) the windshield. The hardtop weatherstriping screw heads also chipped the drivers and passengers window glass. After these repairs I never used the hardtop again.

The 68s didnt have the hole for the center bolt, that was a 69 model change, The hardtop itself didnt have the bracket for the center bolt

Makes sense... I recently bought a hardtop for my '70 and it does not have the center bolt.... If it did I would not have purchased it as I dont want the hole back there... Going on next week..

FYI 2 things

Without the center bolt you may have a gap back there but the rain wont come it...really no big deal

The weight of the top will scratch your paint so you want ot get the per cut vinyl that fits under it or have a clear piece of wrap material cut at a sign shop and have it installed

My early 69 doesn’t have it. When I wash it nothing leaks. Rain is not an issue.
