Default Brake seals

Guys...I took my 71 out for a shakedown cruise on Labor Day after being down for over a year with medical problems, changing the interior, etc. Luckily, I was only a couple of miles from home, when I had to stop at a stop sign. As I applied the brakes, the brake light on the dash came on and it was like I went from power brakes to manual brakes in a heartbeat. I got the car home with no problems and checked the master cylinder. The rear portion of the master cylinder was empty. I let the car sit over night. The next morning, I move the car and there is a slight stain on the pavement under the right rear tire. I put it up on my quick jack and removed the tire and sure enough, there was fluid on the back side of the tire and rotor. I removed the caliper and took it apart.

This is what I found:

So, I removed the left rear caliper and took that one apart.

This is what I found:

Obviously, I will be rebuilding them with the "O" ring conversion.

Guys, please change your brake fluid often and do the "O" ring conversion.

Yes, they all have the stainless steel inserts and they are perfect.

Corvette Stainless Steel Brakes, Inc. says 9 out of 10 calipers are already sleeved.

Great how-to here: https://www.cssbinc.com/images/ads/h...structions.pdf

Thanks for the visual reminder. That's how mine were too. I knew in the last several years I should get out and bleed them ...but I didn't make it a priority and kept putting it off. Bad idea.

Since then I went and bled the brakes on all my old and new-ish cars. I feel like I've cleansed myself! LOL, Anyone who's put the job off for too long, don't.
