Hello:
I am looking to try to identify a alternator which I believe to be from my 1969 427/390 Corvette. The car was sitting disassembled in my Dad's garage for years and I am in the process of getting back on the road. I was at a alternator shop and showed it to the counter guy and he says he believes it is from a Corvette but doesn't believe it has a Corvette pulley. I was hoping someone here can help identify it. I plan on putting a higher amperage unit in the car put want to use the original pulley system.
Thanks
Tom
I see no numbers stamped in the case. I assume it may be a over the counter replacement. The pulley doesn't look like any others I have seen posted elsewhere but I believe it is the alternator we had on the car years ago. I am trying to be sure the right pulley goes on the new alternator.
Thanks for the photo of the alternator on your car. That makes sense to me. I will mockup the brackets and pulleys to be sure of the alignment but it looks like it will work. Trying to piece this back together after all these years is challenging but this forum has been a great help!
OP, That rear casing with raised "fins" on the alternator is a good sign. Also, there is no raised "rectangle" under the Delco Remy which I think indicates a 69. With that said I think the front case should be "open". That is where the numbers are stamped.
Look REALLY close for the numbers. They may be faint. Should start with 1100***. It will also have the amps ( ie 61a) and a date code which will be a combination of a letter and numbers.
Again, It may be faint. Let us know. Good luck.

The front of the case is open so I believe you are saying the numbers should be stamped on the front of the case under the fan. The counter guy thought it was Corvette based on the fins in the back. I will look further into it. Thanks again.
Also thanks for the link with the photos. That clears up a lot questions with the brackets. Also I have a 3 groove pulley for the water pump. I will not have a smog pump on the car so do you know what 2 groove pulley I would use to clean up the installation?

I moved my alternator (also it's a CS144) to the other side so I actually use the 3rd groove now (smog pump removed long before I owned the car)
I do know the first 2 grooves are slightly different distance apart than they are on a 2 groove pulley. I believe it's made as a 2 piece unit (rear groove and then the front 2 grooves) and assembled so there is a bit of a difference. You could probably compensate on the PS pump if it was off

I would stay with the 3 groove pulley regardless because they will line up with the pulleys as per factory. If you start trying to switch out to a 2 groove you will find things may not line up as it should and that’s not a good thing. A water pump belt breaks or slips off, car overheats, problems....
Also the Alt pulley looks just like what’s on both of my big block 69’s.
And the front part of your alternator case is not original, so the numbers, if there are any, will not be correct for the 69 L36 or any 69 corvette.

Thanks for the responses and links. I will probably stay with the 3 groove pulley as suggested. At least I know the alternator pulley should work with the new alternator. Thanks again.
I pulled the pulley and fan off and the only markings are as pictured. Maybe it was replaced before I bought the car in 1974. Does anyone think it would be of any value to someone who is restoring a car? I would be willing to sell it for a reasonable price if so.
It has value just for the correct back case for a 1969 model year Corvette up to about Sept 69. After that the back case has a raised little box under the words Delco-Remy. There is a nice one on eBay right now that is in really nice condition with a blank repro front case for $350. You could probably get $300 for it now just for the back case. I see guys “asking” more for just the back case but I very rarely see them selling for more than $300.
