Default Shift Decal Removal

Simple question- hopefully. How do you remove the 4 speed shift decal plate? I am trying to avoid breaking anything and looking for the easiest possible way to replace mine. I have a new decal plate just looking for how to remove the old one. Thanks!

Plastic or metal plate?

If metal I think you could use masking tape to protect the chrome strip and painted area around the insert and then use a small screwdriver to pry up a corner.

Sorry. Just saw it's a 79 so plastic I guess.

Yes, it is a 79! My fault, forgot to mention that in previous post. It is plastic.

Looks like there is an opening underneath the plate that you could work through from underneath if you got the while thing out.

There are old threads on how to remove it.

I also see you can get a new one for $50 if things don't go well.

It is held down with a couple of strips of thin double sided tape. I used a 2" thin flexible putty knife to get under mine to pop it off

Last one I did = I used Goo Gone and a PLASTIC scraper = go slow, take the console out of the car.
