Default Fuel leak on drivers side.....normal?

When I bought the car it would leak fuel on the drivers side if I filled it all the way up. This would drip down and land on my hot exhaust so subsequently I never filled it up all the way.

I recently had it at the shop for repairs and the shop said they pulled the tank and replaced all hoses and connectors.

I filled it up and no leak.

Its been in my garage for about a week with a full tank and today I went to jack it up to do some brake work. When I jacked the passenger aide and got it leaning pretty good it started to have fuel pour down in the same spot.

Before I call the shop to complain, the car has a full tank. Is this leaking from some breather tube and ia it normal in that instance?

Go to a corvette shop and have it flat bed . I would not drive or leave that car in my garage, push out side That shop you went to i would have had a written estimate for what you asked to be done and what was completed.

Model year? Some models have a vent on the upper left corner of the tank.

Its a 1968. I had it at a Corvette specialty shop in San Diego where he dropped the tank and said he replaced all hoses, connectors and everything and buttoned it back up.

At a 20 degree angle with a full tank, should it leak?

One place to check for a leak with a full tank is the gasket to the fill cap. If the tank is deformed there, and the gasket isn't all that tight, that area could leak when you tilt the car. Recommend you pull the rubber shield and have a look.

One more thing, with a completely full tank, right up to the neck, sitting in the sun, you are going to see gas push out somewhere. In my case it went through the carb into the motor. Lesson learned. Never completely fill the tank.

Ask the shop if they replaced the gasket between the filler neck and tank.
The factory gasket is cork and after 52 years it turns to dust.

Yes, that, AND, over time or over torqued, the reinforcement on the neck of the tank or the cap surround can get a bit distorted. My tank needed extra thick gasket material to seal. Just the same, have a look for yourself. If gas has been leaking from that area there will be a tell tale smear.

The plastic fuel separator on the upper left side of the tank can also cause leaks if the plastic body cracks or a rubber hose going to it 'gives up the ghost'.

That's my original thought- but that wasn't on the 68s.

BUT after 50+ years it could have been replaced with a later 70-74 tank...
