Anyone recognise these - described as "GM wire wheels" on a car I'm looking at.
I'm just wondering if they are a genuine GM/Dealer accessory item, or just some spurious aftermarket wheel with little no no value or interest.
Those were the chit back in the day. Yes true spokes were "good" wire wheels...hated them til recent yrs kind of a neat period thing. Even my neighbor had them on their Newport in the70s. Popular with the vette and van crowd.
Tru-Spokes are definitely high quality and are still made. They were especially popular in the '70s on everything from hotrods to Cadillacs. I worked in my uncle's Auto & Speed store for a while and the Tru-Spokes were second in cost only to genuine magnesium (mag) rims.
And yes, they're a ROYAL pain to clean nicely. Said uncle once hooked his up to a battery hoping to give his dog a shock when he lifted his leg on them
Hadn't made my mind up on them and if I bought the car, was wondering if they were instant hose reels, or cool to have wheels.
I guess if I didn't want them and wanted to buy a set of Rallys, I could find a home for them without having to 'give them away' - i.e recoup some cost.
