I am getting ready to lift the body off my 69 Coupe using my 4 post hoist
Can I thread 2 x long strap between the body and frame and use the hoist to lift the body off
Ends of straps will to secured to each of the runways and then raise the hoist enough to roll
out the frame and then lower body onto dolly
Has anyone done this and maybe have photos.
Yes I did it with my 77 , you can see the first attempt (2nd pic) how it hung too low from the runways , couldn't get enough clearance to roll the frame out . some blocks of wood to take up the slack made it doable , but only just . Motor was out .
had to land it on a lower profile dolly than I wanted . Made it fun to get under the body .
Here are some pics of my 4 post lift. One key piece of advice I wish I had.... Make sure you position your car so the chassis rolls out the back. I had it the wrong way and there is not enough room for the gas tank going forward. It wasn't the end of the world, but I was not prepared to clean up 25 year old gas on that day.
Another way to gain some height is to start with the car lower-instead of the chassis on wheels and tires, take the wheels off and put the car on wheel dollies at the rotors. I did that when using my cherry picker to lift the body off, didn't have to lift it as high. Good luck!
A friend of mine, does it this way. And he has pulled several bodies off. Attaches body to ceiling / gantry with shortened straps, and lowers the frame with lift. Says he has more room under the car that way.

Yeah I agree. David Howard has done quite a few frames and body-offs and is always experimenting. This is current favorite way of removing the body.
Told me it made it a one man job. Was very steady, could go very slow and was very controllable. And left him plenty of room underneath.
Then rolls out frame and rolls in the body dolly.
Zero stress on the body because it does not ever move/shake at all.

I will think about doing this when I replace my body mount cushions.
