I just got in my '79 corvette to pull it out and do some work on it when I look over to see a mouse with 6-8 babies hanging off it's underside in the passenger floorboard. Before I even registered what it was it had crawled up the footwell behind the dash. How do I get this little bigger and all of its offspring out? Any good way to lure them out? I'm not sure if they're in the dash or in the Ventillation. I turned on the blower and ran it for a few minutes with no success. We tried using some peppermint oil in the intake which I hear they do not like but we have yet to see them come out. I know this is a common issue so I'm hoping someone will have some insight. Thank you guys!
Holy cow...
im gonna guess least messy sticky traps.peanut butter
Holy cow is right! I've got traps with peanut butter in there for tonight. We'll see if that yields any results. I believe they're coming in through the blower. The plastic grate in the wiper well was not in the best of shape.
Set a snap trap immediately with peanut butter. Quit being a nice guy and luring them out. Once the adult is disposed of, put a glove on and get the young out of there pronto.
Again, don't be a nice guy, throw them in the garbage. Little bass-turds.
Mice leave a urine / feces trail almost everywhere they go. Other mice pick up on this scent and follow pursuit. So there's more to follow.
Mice carry diseases, are a menace to the environment. They will chew on your C3 wiring, vacuum hoses, upholstery, carpet, plastic, vinyl and leave a disgusting odor behind. Get a hold of the situation now. Or no one will even want to get in the car from the stench.
Repelling: I can tell you that dryer sheets, moth ***** make thing worse than without. There is a product that smells like peppermint oil that truly does work repelling.
But its strong and I would not recommend in the cabin of the vehicle. I believe it was called Grandpas Gus mouse repel kit. Maybe Amazon?
To continue killing them off, try Walk The Plank Mouse trap, EBay, $9. I bought one in January for a carport. Caught over 80 so far.

Yep, I've got three snap traps set already. Unfortunately they seem to be deep in the Ventillation system so getting the little ones out is gonna be a time. I will definitely be keeping traps set in the carport for the rest of the season. As far as the repellant, I may get some to put in the carport, just not in the car

I would second this - they will chew on wires and their urine is very strong and acidic. When I was a lineman I came across many situations where mice urine had melted the plastic insulation off wires and they were fused together. I have baited poison set around the garage that the
mice love to eat, and therefore do not have any issues with them. The baited traps I have contain 2 holes (in and out) that you position parallel to the wall. The mice can go in and eat the poison, and then you just pick up the dead bodies every now and then. Even better, the parents take the poison back to the babies and you can get rid of the whole family.

I have an outbuilding that was infested with rats, mice and squirrels. They did extensive damage to the insulation, wiring, soffit and facia, I tried all types of traps but solved the problem completely by obtaining cats that are strictly OUTDOOR cats. I do not let them inside the building. All rodents must come out for food/water and at that time they meet the cat(s). By being strictly outside they may not affect your allergies. The cats keep the snake population down as well killing small ones and eliminating a food source-rodents.
So I caught the mom. Unfortunately non of the little ones came out with her. I guess this means I'm tearing my car apart?
honestly..i have 79..heater core leaked..
im not sure how long its been for your heater core but I couldn’t drive that thing without removing and cleaning. At the same time gave me an opportunity to replace seals clean gauges, clean wash ducts etc..replace lights, lube and clean and properly route temperature cable, a few pieces of heat vibration etc... leak check your replacement heater core replacement or rebuild..
not expensive but boy time consuming detail..
my journey
This happened in my 68, I couldn't take the smell anymore so I just kept ripping apart and now we're here There were nests, pee and poop everywhere. Best bet is to just totally strip everything and give it a refresh.

Here I am again at the risk of being flamed again but here goes. Several years ago I had a mice problem in my 79 and they even chewed up the registration in a zip lock bag that was in the glove compartment among many other things. Since then I have been using Irish spring bar soap cut in sections and wrapped in Fresh dryer sheets tied with a zip tie. I spread them around the interior and engine compartment and have done so every winter. I have not had any problems what so ever since. Worked for me, has kept them away...
