Default Headlight Switch

I finally figured the problem with the courtesy lights. Now it works fine every time the door opens and closes. Now I seemed to have another issue with them. When I turned the headlight switch to turn them on when in car, they do not come on. I am not 100% sure because the whole interior is apart, but I don't think that when I turn the light switch to dim or brighten the light, I don't believe they dim or get bright. I am assuming this because the light bulb in the heater control( which i left in, doesn't change when turning headlight ****. Now I am assuming that it is probably the headlight switch, but is there any way to check switch before I buy a new one and then find out it still does not work. Any ideas?

The 'dimmer' rheostat is built into the headlamp switch. The courtesy lights should turn ON when the headlamp switch **** is turned fully CCW, but they will not dim come ON or dim with the rheostat. If any of the dash bulbs will not dim when you rotate the headlamp switch ****, then the rheostat is not working or the switch is not wired correctly.
