Considering a car but have noticed something that I'm not sure of under the hood, (in addition to the missing wiper door and vacuum canister).
I've circled the area of concern in yellow - the housing area behind the brake master cylinder - in pics of other cars I've seen this looks more box like, whereas in the pic below, it look less so.
However, I found a pic of another BB, where the area in question looks more similar to the one above....
Burdened with inexperience and lack of familiarity, I'm not sure what is what in this area and if there were different configurations based on year, options and such like that might change the area in question - '72 454 in this case.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: Here is one I found where the structure looks far more box like...
Or is it just a case of bad light and poor photo?

Reason: Additional pic and typo
I am pretty sure the boxed area behind the master cylinder is the same from the first C3's on. As for the wiper door and vacuum,....they stopped that nonsense in 73, when they made the longer hoods and got rid of the entire mechanism nightmare. Much improvement.

This is a '72 so should have the wiper door and vacuum canister - at least the wiper door is with the car still.
As for the area in question, does it look right or of concern? Not sure why this might be changed? What is behind this area? Is it the pedal box?
LT you're used to seeing POWER BRAKE BOOSTERS THERE!
my L-46 looks like that.

I know what you mean, but i'm talking specifically about the area behind where the booster would go - in some pics it looks very square and neat, whereas in the pic of the one I circled, the pedal box housing looks more rounded and potentially butchered? Not sure if just the pic, my eyes or the car. Compare my circled pic to the bottom pic which is much clearer (of a different car0 see how the car in the bottom clearer pic has a pedal box housing that looks much neater and more square?
Hope that makes sense.

Thanks - maybe it's just a poor picture making the circled one look less square. Hope that's the least concern on the car! Fingers crossed - inspection on Monday....
That area is actually a cap that was glued on after the steel plate re-enforcement (for the pedal box ) was riveted on . The rivets are down on the flat edge , there,s nothing up along the top edge inside . Only the mount for the hood hold down piece at the front
I had to modify mine to make clearance for some taller valve covers , so ignore the bottom right side of the area . that's with the steel plate out of the way as well.
I agree with Barry I do not see, unless it is a photographic illusion, a crisp GM edge there. It looks like there has been some sloppy repair done in the area. IKe

I wonder if someone had to get to the brake booster nuts and cut through the firewall box for access...

That was my initial thought too - a kind forum member is checking the car out for me on Monday - I'll ask him to play detective in this area. Not sure whether this should put me off of not if the rest of the car is otherwise sound?
Make sure you have the inspector ask the owner what was done to that area when he or she inspects the car.
For me it looks like someone has been playing in that area with fiberglass.
When I built my 72 with 496 big block I had issues with tall valve covers in that area and considered making a modification to the glass but wound up getting shorter valve covers to solve the problem. Might be something this car has seen as well, but worth the ask.
I don't see the crisp edge either so it is worth investigating.
