Where can I get my hands on that car? A little buffing and it will clean right up.
I'd pay admission just to be able to see the condition of this one's frame.

Make sure you have the inspector ask the owner what was done to that area when he or she inspects the car.
For me it looks like someone has been playing in that area with fiberglass.
When I built my 72 with 496 big block I had issues with tall valve covers in that area and considered making a modification to the glass but wound up getting shorter valve covers to solve the problem. Might be something this car has seen as well, but worth the ask.
I don't see the crisp edge either so it is worth investigating.

Thanks David, the car is with a trader/flipper so I guess we'll just have to go at face value - hopefully just a poor picture, but unlikely.
It has the original motor in there, but a high rise hood (original comes with the car) so it's not impossible that something like you describe has occurred. Not sure how I'd feel about that if it has been poorly executed, as to return to invisible/stock might be tricky - and I hate irreversible mods. Guess just have to see what the rest of the car is like for rust etc. If it's the dry California car it is described as, maybe that piece could be cut from a donor car and re-glassed in?
I've directed the kind forum member inspector to this thread, so hopefully we can get a better idea on this area. At least I know it's not just me and my detective eyes working over-time.
