Hood Hinge Bolt Thread Help?

Default Hood Hinge Bolt Thread Help?

One of the bolt holes for the hood hinge is stripped out (in the hood). Any ideas on how to repair this? Could I just tap it and create new threads, or is there more involved with this?

Don't laugh .. But here's what I would do.

I would insert a small amount of epoxy in the hole with the damaged threads ..

Then I would coat the threads of the bolt with a release agent.. wax or wd40?,

Then insert or screw if possible the bolt into the prepped hole and allow the epoxy to cure.

I believe this would work and the bolt interface would have sufficient structural integrity

This has worked for me in the past.

Also it allows you to use the same hardware.

Have you considered using a Helicoil? Might be an option.

Thanks for the replies. If I can't get this tapped out, I may need to go to a helicoil. I did find that there is a metal plate with threads in it which is riveted into the hood, so I'll give the old tap a try and see what happens.

I'd heli-coil (or timesert) if it was me
Epoxy thread repair is pretty light duty and next time you pull the bolt it might be toast again. If I wanted to go this way I'd look at putting a stud in so I didn't disturb it next time (and do the other side so it looks slight less Bubba)
Before drilling out a side, see if a 8mm x 1.25 bolt won't work, it's slightly larger in dia and almost the same pitch. Use some loctite and don't torque it too hard though
